DHW/Ohly and Provesta merge to “Ohly - An ABF Ingredients Company"
Effective July 1, 2007, Provesta Flavor Ingredients located in Hutchinson, Minnesota and Boyceville, Wisconsin will merge with the business of Deutsche Hefewerke GmbH located in Hamburg, Germany and will trade under "Ohly Americas".
Operations will remain the same, with products continuing to be manufactured under the same specification and at the same locations. Product numbers and product descriptions will not be altered by this change in branding.

Skidmore Purchases Essex Grain Products
Skidmore Sales and Distributing Company, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio, (www.SkidmoreSales.com) announced that it has completed the purchase of Essex Grain Products, Inc., based in Frazer, Pennsylvania. Both companies are leading distributors of food ingredients to the food processing, flavors, and health and nutritional industries. Skidmore operates from eight distribution centers located throughout the Midwest. Essex operates from three distribution centers in Frazer, Newark, and Boston that serve the Middle Atlantic and New England markets.
In commenting on the purchase of Essex, Doug Skidmore, President of Skidmore Sales and Distributing stated that “Essex has a great reputation in the industry, and the geographical area it serves complements our territory very nicely.” Bill and Alice Bierer, the previous owners of Essex, stated that “We are pleased that Skidmore is offering positions to all of our people, and we feel that Skidmore will continue our tradition of offering excellent service to our broad customer base.”
Skidmore plans to manage Essex as a separate operating unit under the Essex name, while offering additional products to Essex customers. Doug Skidmore added that “We want to make our purchase of Essex as seamless as possible to the customers of both companies.”
Sampson Associates, Inc., from Minneapolis acted as the financial advisor for Skidmore Sales and Distributing, and Fairmount Partners of West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania acted as the financial advisor for Essex Grain Products.

PURAC - New concentrated versions of Potassium Lactate. Whereas as a standard Potassium Lactate (PURASAL Hi Pure P) is a 60% solution, PURAC now has a 78% Potassium Lactate product called PURASAL Hi Pure P "Plus." The potassium version of Opti.Form is also now available in a 78% version, PURASAL Opti.Form PD "Plus." These products are 30% more concentrated than traditional lactate solutions, thus reducing the amount of water shipped per pound of lactate.

Skidmore Sales is happy to announce that there are new guidelines established to help facilitate bar coding for the food ingredient industry. These guidelines should set the foundation for new efficiencies in the industry’s supply chain utilizing the EAN.UCC System for standard product identification and bar codes (data carriers).
The UCC, Uniform Code Council, Inc. and FIDA, Food Ingredient Distributors Association, were an integral part in developing these guidelines. Skidmore Sales is proud to be a part of FIDA and helping with this project.

The Protein and Lecithin operations will not be affected by this announcement and intend to continue to supply everyone with the level of service and support everyone has come to expect.
Although Valley Sun of California has a sufficient supply of sun dried tomatoes in stock, they expect their domestic competitors to face a shortage this year. The 2001 tomato season was beset by weather problems that reduced the yield from 37.5 tons/acres in 2000 to a mere 33.6 tons/acre in 2001. With these reduced yields, growers were unable to satisfy their contracts with their major customers – the paste and canned tomato processors. Therefore, the spot market for processing tomatoes was virtually eliminated. Valley Sun is the only major dryer that contracts for its fresh tomato requirements.
